Paris Hilton causes a stir in Copenhagen

US socialite Paris Hilton attracted huge crowds when she visited the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in the Danish capital on Tuesday evening.

Surrounded by bodyguards and hordes of photographers, Hilton, 27, was swarmed as she signed autographs and handed out pictures of herself and handbags from her new range.

Taking the time to chat to the young crowd and stopping at times to pose for photographs, she told AFP she wanted to "try out the rides and have a good time."

Hilton arrived in Copenhagen on Monday to promote her new collection of handbags at an international fashion house that opens Wednesday.

Asked by a Danish television channel what advice she would give to young people wanting to be famous, she said: "I think it's all about confidence.

"That's why my new handbag line is called 'Confidence'. It's important just to feel in that way and to know and believe in yourself and everything is possible."

A darling of the tabloids, Hilton, the great-granddaughter of the Hilton hotel chain's founder, shot to fame in 2003 when her boyfriend leaked a video of their sexual escapades on the Internet.

Hilton has since appeared in films and released an album.

Last year, she was jailed for 23 days for violating probation over an alcohol-related reckless driving conviction.
